Newborn Session Prep
Everything you need to know to prepare!
Session Style
-
Lifestyle Focus: My sessions are mostly lifestyle-oriented, focusing on sweet, natural moments with your family and you can include whomever you'd like.
-
Basket Photos: If requested, I can include basket-style studio photos. These are best suited for babies within their first 7 days but may depend on their sleepiness and comfort. For babies older than 14 days, these poses may not be possible due to their size or activity level.
-
Props: I will have everything I need, but you can bring any props you'd like to include.
Location Options
-
In Your Home: Sessions in your home focus on the love within it, not the home itself. Your space doesn’t need to be perfect—just tidy and uncluttered to the best of your ability. I’ll handle the rest!
-
At My Studio: If you prefer, we can meet at my studio located at 3005 32nd St, Vernon.
Timing
-
Ideal Age: Newborn sessions are best within the first 7 days of life, but since we’re focusing on lifestyle, up to 2 weeks is perfectly fine.
Session Details
-
Duration: I recommend booking the one-hour session, which is scheduled for 1.5 hours to allow plenty of time to tend to your baby.
-
Temperature: Keep your home warm and cozy since baby might be in just a diaper for parts of the session.
-
Lighting: No need to worry about natural light—I bring all the equipment needed to ensure beautiful photos.
Preparing Baby
Before the Session:
-
If baby is asleep before the session starts, dress them in only a clean diaper for easy transitioning into basket photos (if requested).
-
If baby is awake, we’ll start with the lifestyle portion and aim for a nap later to capture those sleepy shots.
Outfit Tips:
-
Choose outfits that won’t bunch up or irritate baby’s skin. A sleeveless or armless onesie is ideal.
-
Test fabrics on baby’s skin beforehand to ensure they’re soft and comfortable.
-
Don’t worry about blemishes or skin imperfections—I’ll take care of those in post-editing.
Family Involvement
-
Parents & Siblings: Babies and siblings pick up on your energy, so staying calm and positive is key. Avoid saying “don’t” or drawing attention to undesirable behavior. Instead, gently redirect with phrases like, “Let’s try this!” I’ll take care of directing the kids—it’s part of my job!
-
Breastfeeding Photos: If you’d like to include these intimate moments, let me know! I won’t share them without your explicit permission, even if you sign the photo release.
What to Expect
-
I’ll guide you every step of the way to ensure everyone feels relaxed and comfortable.
-
Most photos will focus on cozy family moments: snuggling on the bed, lounging on the couch, or spending time in the baby’s room.
-
Your baby’s comfort is the priority—they’ll lead the way, and we’ll go at their pace.
Newborn Portfolio
"Selina was so accommodating to our family during the shoot (especially with two busy toddlers running around). She made the experience so comfortable and relaxing for us. We are thrilled with how our photos turned out and definitely plan to book with her again in the future!"
